1. Scope of this Policy
This Policy applies to purchases made directly from ReadThisAloud or ReadThisAloud.com, including eligible monthly subscriptions, annual subscriptions, business subscriptions, narration add-ons, account-based purchases, and other digital products or services that expressly reference this Policy.
If ReadThisAloud enters into a separately signed business agreement, enterprise agreement, purchase order, reseller agreement, or other contract containing different refund or cancellation terms, the expressly negotiated written terms control for that transaction to the extent of any conflict.
Purchases made through a third-party marketplace, reseller, app store, or other independent seller may be governed by that seller’s refund process rather than this Policy.
2. Key Definitions
- “Billing Period” means the monthly, annual, or other paid subscription term shown at checkout.
- “Cancellation” means stopping a subscription from renewing for a future Billing Period.
- “Refund” means ReadThisAloud authorizing the return of some or all of a payment already successfully processed.
- “Trial” means a limited evaluation period offered before or in connection with paid service.
- “Narration Usage” means cloud speech-processing usage consumed through ReadThisAloud.
- “Add-On” means additional narration capacity, credits, usage, or another separately purchased service.
3. Trial Period
ReadThisAloud may offer a seven (7) day trial with a limited amount of natural narration, currently described on the Pricing page as up to 60 minutes where that offer is available. The purpose of the Trial is to allow you to evaluate the product before continuing with paid service.
You should use the Trial to confirm that ReadThisAloud works with your Windows environment, supported document types, network configuration, preferred voices, reading workflow, highlighting behavior, and other features important to you.
If a Trial requires a payment method and the checkout states that the Trial will automatically convert to a paid subscription, you must cancel before the disclosed conversion deadline if you do not want to be charged. If a Trial does not automatically convert, you will not be charged until you separately authorize a purchase.
Trial eligibility may be limited by person, household, organization, account, payment method, or device to prevent repeated promotional use or abuse.
4. Monthly Subscriptions
Monthly subscription fees pay for access during the applicable monthly Billing Period and for the service capacity reserved or made available to the account during that period.
Unless required by law or expressly approved under this Policy, monthly subscription charges are non-refundable once processed. Canceling during a monthly Billing Period stops the next renewal but does not ordinarily generate a prorated refund for the unused remainder of the current period.
After cancellation, access may continue through the end of the already-paid Billing Period, subject to the EULA, account status, usage allowances, and other applicable terms.
5. Annual Subscriptions
Annual subscriptions are offered at a discounted effective monthly rate in exchange for purchasing the full annual term. The annual fee is payment for the entire applicable annual subscription period.
Unless required by applicable law or specifically approved by ReadThisAloud under this Policy, annual subscription payments are non-refundable after the annual term or renewal has begun. Canceling an annual subscription prevents the next automatic renewal but does not ordinarily create a refund for unused months remaining in the already-paid annual term.
Customers choosing annual billing should review the annual amount, renewal terms, and cancellation instructions before purchase.
6. Automatic Renewal
If you select an automatically renewing subscription, your subscription will renew at the disclosed interval using the payment method authorized for the account unless you cancel before the applicable renewal is processed.
ReadThisAloud will provide renewal terms, cancellation instructions, and any notices required by applicable law. Where legally required, ReadThisAloud will provide advance renewal reminders or other mandated disclosures.
A successfully processed renewal is treated as the beginning of a new paid Billing Period and is subject to the same refund rules applicable to that subscription type.
7. Cancellation
Cancellation prevents future automatic renewal; it does not automatically reverse a payment that has already been completed. Customers may cancel using the method made available through their ReadThisAloud account or another cancellation method ReadThisAloud identifies.
ReadThisAloud intends to make cancellation reasonably accessible and will not intentionally require a customer to continue purchasing a subscription after a valid cancellation has been completed.
You are responsible for completing cancellation before the applicable renewal is processed. Merely uninstalling the Windows application, stopping use of the service, deleting a local file, or failing to log in does not by itself cancel a subscription.
8. Charges That Are Generally Non-Refundable
Except where required by law or expressly approved by ReadThisAloud, refunds are generally not provided for:
- monthly subscription periods that have already begun;
- annual subscription periods or annual renewals that have already begun;
- unused time remaining after a customer voluntarily cancels;
- failure to cancel before a disclosed renewal or trial-conversion deadline;
- change of mind after purchase;
- failure to use the product after purchase;
- temporary lack of personal internet access or changes to the customer’s own network;
- customer hardware failure, Windows configuration problems, firewall restrictions, antivirus restrictions, or employer IT policies not caused by ReadThisAloud;
- unsupported operating systems, devices, file types, or configurations disclosed in product information or System Requirements;
- natural-voice pronunciation differences, accents, voice preference, or dissatisfaction with a supported voice after the customer had an opportunity to evaluate the product;
- third-party provider changes, voice retirements, or voice substitutions that do not materially eliminate the core paid service;
- Customer Content that cannot be read correctly because of image-only scans, malformed files, unusual document structure, DRM, password protection, or unsupported formatting;
- licenses suspended or terminated because of fraud, abuse, prohibited conduct, nonpayment, or a material violation of the EULA; or
- fees already paid for consumed Narration Usage or other metered cloud services.
9. Narration Usage, Add-On Packs, and Metered Services
Natural neural narration creates real third-party cloud processing costs. Narration allowances and Add-On packs are therefore treated differently from unused physical merchandise.
Consumed Narration Usage is non-refundable. Once text has been submitted for authorized speech processing and the associated usage has been consumed or recorded, that usage cannot be returned to inventory.
Separately purchased narration Add-Ons, credits, or usage packs are generally non-refundable once purchased, activated, partially consumed, or credited to an account, except for a verified duplicate charge, ReadThisAloud billing error, or where applicable law requires otherwise.
Narration allowances included with a subscription have no independent cash value, are not redeemable for cash, and do not create a refund entitlement if unused when the Billing Period ends.
10. Business, Team, and Organizational Purchases
Business subscriptions, team seats, volume purchases, and organization-managed licenses may involve reserved capacity, administrative setup, account configuration, onboarding, or negotiated pricing.
Unless a signed agreement states otherwise, business purchases are non-refundable after the applicable subscription term begins. Removing employees, reducing seat use, changing internal staffing, or failing to deploy purchased seats does not create a retroactive refund.
Seat reductions generally take effect for future renewal periods rather than creating refunds for previously purchased seats.
11. Duplicate, Unauthorized, or Incorrect Charges
If you believe ReadThisAloud charged you twice for the same transaction, charged an incorrect amount, or processed a payment that does not match the purchase you authorized, contact Billing promptly.
Verified duplicate or processing-error charges may be reversed or refunded after ReadThisAloud reviews the transaction and confirms the error.
If you believe your payment method was used without authorization, contact your financial institution promptly and also notify ReadThisAloud so that we can secure the associated account and investigate.
12. Technical Problems
A technical problem does not automatically qualify a purchase for a refund. Many issues can be resolved through configuration changes, software updates, account corrections, firewall changes, document conversion, or troubleshooting.
Before requesting a refund because of a technical issue, customers should provide ReadThisAloud Support a reasonable opportunity to diagnose and, where possible, correct the issue.
If ReadThisAloud determines that a material defect in the paid service prevents the customer from using the core product as represented, and ReadThisAloud cannot provide a reasonable correction or workaround, ReadThisAloud may, in its discretion and subject to applicable law, provide a refund, partial refund, service credit, replacement subscription period, or other appropriate remedy.
This discretionary remedy does not create a continuing right to refunds for unrelated customers or future transactions.
13. System Compatibility and Customer Environment
Customers are responsible for reviewing the System Requirements before purchase and for using the Trial or Demo to evaluate suitability where available.
Refunds are generally not provided because a customer attempts to use ReadThisAloud on an unsupported operating system, Mac, Chromebook, mobile device, restricted employer computer, unsupported virtual environment, or other configuration not represented as supported.
Corporate firewall, proxy, antivirus, endpoint-security, or administrative restrictions controlled by the customer or employer are the customer’s responsibility unless ReadThisAloud specifically represented compatibility with that environment.
14. Voice Catalog, Cloud Provider, and Feature Changes
ReadThisAloud may rely on third-party cloud providers, including Microsoft Azure Speech Services, and available voices may change over time. A particular voice may be renamed, updated, retired, restricted, or replaced.
The removal or modification of an individual voice, minor interface change, non-material feature change, or third-party service adjustment does not automatically entitle a customer to a refund when the core ReadThisAloud service remains materially available.
If ReadThisAloud permanently discontinues a material paid service before the end of a prepaid period and does not provide a reasonable replacement, ReadThisAloud may provide an appropriate remedy consistent with applicable law.
15. How to Request a Refund
A refund request should be submitted to billing@readthisaloud.com with the subject line Refund Request.
Please include:
- the email address associated with the ReadThisAloud account;
- the approximate purchase or renewal date;
- the plan or product involved;
- the reason for the request;
- any relevant transaction or receipt identifier; and
- for technical claims, the support case number or troubleshooting details if available.
Do not send your password, full credit-card number, card security code, private API key, or other sensitive credentials.
16. Refund Review and Verification
ReadThisAloud may verify account ownership, purchase records, subscription history, cancellation history, device activations, Narration Usage, support history, fraud signals, and transaction records before approving a refund.
ReadThisAloud may request additional information reasonably necessary to evaluate the request. Failure to provide enough information to identify the transaction or verify the account may prevent ReadThisAloud from completing the review.
ReadThisAloud reserves the right to deny a request that is inconsistent with this Policy, unsupported by the transaction record, fraudulent, abusive, duplicative, or otherwise not required by applicable law.
17. Approved Refunds
If ReadThisAloud approves a refund, the approved amount may be a full refund, partial refund, prorated remedy, or service credit depending on the reason, consumed usage, transaction history, applicable law, and circumstances.
Unless required otherwise, a monetary refund will be returned through the original payment method used for the transaction. ReadThisAloud will not ordinarily redirect a card refund to a different credit card, bank account, cryptocurrency wallet, cash payment, gift card, or unrelated person.
Once ReadThisAloud submits an approved refund to Stripe, the timing of the customer’s receipt is controlled by Stripe, the payment network, the card issuer, and the customer’s bank.
18. Stripe Refund Processing
ReadThisAloud uses Stripe for supported payment processing. Stripe states that refunds are returned to the original payment method. For card refunds, customers commonly see the credit approximately five (5) to ten (10) business days after a refund is initiated, depending on the bank and card network.
In some cases, a refund issued shortly after the original payment may appear as a reversal, meaning the original charge disappears rather than a separate refund credit appearing.
Refund timing is an estimate, not a guarantee by ReadThisAloud. Banks, card issuers, payment methods, weekends, holidays, fraud reviews, expired cards, and failed refund processing can affect timing.
If an approved refund does not appear after a reasonable processing period, contact Billing. Where available, ReadThisAloud may be able to provide a Stripe refund reference that your financial institution can use to trace the transaction.
19. Taxes
If a transaction is refunded, the treatment of taxes depends on applicable law, the tax originally collected, the amount refunded, and payment-processing capabilities.
ReadThisAloud will refund or adjust taxes when and to the extent required by law. Taxes that were never collected by ReadThisAloud or that cannot legally be refunded are not independently refundable by ReadThisAloud.
20. Discounts, Promotional Pricing, Credits, and Coupons
Promotional discounts, coupons, account credits, free months, trial credits, and promotional Narration Usage generally have no cash value and are not redeemable for cash unless required by law.
If a paid transaction using a discount is refunded, any approved refund is generally based on the amount actually paid, not the undiscounted list price.
Refunds do not ordinarily restore an expired promotion or guarantee eligibility for the same promotional price on a future purchase.
21. Fraud, Abuse, and Repeated Refund Requests
ReadThisAloud may deny refund requests associated with fraud, intentional license circumvention, repeated trial abuse, account sharing, unauthorized resale, excessive refund patterns, false technical claims, manipulated usage, deliberate duplicate reimbursement attempts, or other conduct that violates the EULA or applicable law.
ReadThisAloud may preserve transaction, licensing, usage, security, and support records reasonably necessary to investigate suspected refund or payment abuse.
22. Chargebacks and Payment Disputes
Customers are encouraged to contact ReadThisAloud Billing before initiating a chargeback when the issue concerns cancellation, a refund request, a duplicate payment, or a technical problem. Many issues can be resolved more quickly without a formal payment dispute.
If a chargeback or payment dispute is opened, ReadThisAloud may provide the payment processor or financial institution with relevant transaction evidence, including checkout records, subscription terms, acceptance records, cancellation history, account activity, usage records, support correspondence, refund records, and other information reasonably necessary to respond to the dispute.
A customer should not seek both a direct refund and a chargeback for the same transaction. If a dispute is opened while a refund is pending, ReadThisAloud may stop or adjust the direct refund process where necessary to prevent duplicate reimbursement.
23. Account or Service Suspension During Payment Disputes
ReadThisAloud may suspend subscription benefits, new narration usage, downloads, license activation, or other paid services while a payment is reversed, disputed, unpaid, or under fraud review, where reasonably necessary to protect ReadThisAloud and its payment systems.
Suspension does not waive amounts lawfully due and does not prevent ReadThisAloud from restoring access after the issue is resolved.
24. Exceptional and Goodwill Refunds
ReadThisAloud may choose to issue a refund, partial refund, credit, extension, or other accommodation even when not required by this Policy. Such an accommodation is a voluntary customer-service decision and does not constitute an admission of liability, modification of this Policy, or promise to provide the same accommodation in another case.
25. Non-Waivable Consumer Rights
Nothing in this Policy eliminates or limits refund, cancellation, rescission, warranty, cooling-off, statutory, or consumer-protection rights that cannot legally be waived under applicable law.
If applicable law requires a refund or gives you rights that conflict with a provision of this Policy, the mandatory legal requirement controls to the extent of that conflict.
Customers outside Arizona or outside the United States may have additional mandatory consumer rights in their place of residence.
26. Changes to this Policy
ReadThisAloud may update this Refund & Cancellation Policy to reflect changes in pricing, subscription structure, payment processing, products, law, or business practices.
The version applicable to a particular purchase is generally the version presented or incorporated into the transaction at the relevant time, subject to later changes that may lawfully apply to future renewals or transactions.
Material changes affecting future subscription renewals will be disclosed as required by applicable law.
27. Billing and Refund Contact Information
