Help when you need it

ReadThisAloud Support

Find the right help for installation, activation, accounts, document loading, narration, voices, synchronized highlighting, WAV export, billing, privacy, security, and business deployment. This page is designed to help customers solve common issues quickly while giving ReadThisAloud enough information to investigate problems accurately and securely.

01 Start with the exact issue

Tell us what you were trying to do, what happened instead, and whether the problem can be repeated.

02 Protect your account

Never send your password, full payment-card number, Azure keys, private API keys, or other secrets.

03 Give us a reasonable chance to troubleshoot

Many installation, network, document, and narration issues can be resolved without reinstalling or requesting a refund.

Choose the right support path

Send the issue to the team that can actually resolve it.

Security Information
Before opening a ticket

Five checks solve a surprising number of problems.

1Confirm internet access

Natural neural narration and licensing functions require access to ReadThisAloud services.

2Restart the Reader

Close ReadThisAloud completely, reopen it, and retry the same action.

3Check Windows audio

Confirm the correct speaker or headset is selected and Windows is not muted.

4Try another document

This helps determine whether the problem follows the Reader or only one PDF/DOCX file.

5Note the exact error

Write down or screenshot the complete error message before dismissing it.

Support topics

Common issues and the information ReadThisAloud needs to help.

Installation and setup problems

If ReadThisAloud will not install, confirm that the computer meets the current System Requirements, that Windows permits the installation, and that you are using the official ReadThisAloud installer.

Include your Windows version, the installer version or filename, the exact error message, and whether the computer is personally managed or controlled by an employer or IT department.

Corporate antivirus, endpoint protection, application-control policies, or administrator restrictions can block installation. ReadThisAloud Support can help identify the likely cause, but your organization's IT team may need to approve the software.

Activation, license, or device-limit problems

Confirm that the computer is online, you are using the correct ReadThisAloud account, your subscription is active, and the plan's device limit has not been exceeded.

If an old computer failed or was replaced before it could be deactivated, tell Support which device is no longer available. After appropriate account verification, ReadThisAloud can review the activation record and available options.

Do not send license tokens, passwords, Azure credentials, or private API keys in a support message.

I can open the Reader, but narration will not start

Check internet connectivity, account and subscription status, the selected voice, and whether the loaded content contains readable text. Then check whether a firewall, proxy, VPN, or endpoint-security product is blocking ReadThisAloud service communication.

If possible, try a short TXT file or pasted paragraph. If that works but the original document does not, the issue may be related to the document rather than the narration service.

There is narration activity but no sound

Confirm Windows volume, ReadThisAloud volume, the active playback device, headset connection, and whether another application can play sound through the same device.

If Windows recently changed audio devices—for example, after connecting Bluetooth headphones, a monitor, or a docking station—the active output device may have changed.

A word, name, acronym, or abbreviation is pronounced incorrectly

Natural neural voices interpret text according to spelling, punctuation, capitalization, context, language, and the selected voice. Uncommon names, abbreviations, acronyms, technical terminology, and unusual punctuation are the most likely to be pronounced differently than expected.

A pronunciation difference is not necessarily a software defect. If the same text produces a clearly unexpected result repeatedly, include the exact sentence, selected voice, and Reader version in the support case.

Word highlighting is not matching the narration

Synchronized highlighting depends on the relationship between extracted document text and speech timing. Complex PDF structure, special characters, unusual line breaks, tables, headers, OCR text, or unexpected segmentation can affect the displayed position.

For a repeatable issue, tell Support the document type, the exact section where synchronization changes, the selected voice, and whether the same text behaves correctly when pasted directly into the Reader.

A PDF reads in the wrong order

Some PDFs store text in a different internal order from the visual page layout. This often occurs with multi-column documents, forms, tables, headers, footers, or PDFs generated by publishing software.

If a PDF is image-only rather than text-based, it may require OCR before ReadThisAloud can read it correctly.

A scanned PDF will not read

If the PDF contains only images of pages and no selectable text, the Reader may have no text to send for narration. Unless OCR functionality is specifically included in your installed version, convert the scan to searchable/selectable text first.

A Word document will not load correctly

Protected files, damaged documents, embedded objects, unusual layouts, macros, complex tables, or unsupported formatting can interfere with text extraction.

Try saving a copy as a new DOCX or plain-text file. If the problem persists, provide Support with the Word version, Reader version, and a redacted sample if one is necessary to reproduce the issue.

WAV export is not working

Confirm that narration has been generated, the selected destination folder is writable, there is enough free disk space, and your license/version includes the export function.

Windows folder permissions, security software, cloud-synced folder restrictions, or an invalid output path can prevent the file from being written.

ReadThisAloud is slow with a large document

Large files can require more time for text extraction, segmentation, display, network communication, and speech generation. Progressive narration is designed to reduce the need to wait for the entire document to be processed before useful playback begins.

If performance is unusually slow, include the approximate document size, page count, file type, Windows version, Reader version, and whether the same issue occurs with smaller files.

A voice I previously used is no longer available

Voice catalogs can change because of Microsoft Azure or other provider updates, regional availability, quality changes, licensing restrictions, or ReadThisAloud product decisions. An individual voice is not guaranteed to remain available indefinitely.

Choose another currently supported voice. If the missing voice is critical to a business workflow, contact ReadThisAloud before making that workflow dependent on a specific voice.

I reached my narration allowance

Your plan may include a monthly or per-user narration allowance. Review the current usage and any available upgrade or add-on options in your account. Support cannot manually bypass usage limits simply because the allowance has been consumed.

I cannot sign in to my account

Use the official password-recovery process first. Confirm that you are using the email address associated with the ReadThisAloud account and check spam or junk folders for account messages.

Support can help with account recovery after reasonable verification, but Support will not ask you to send your existing password.

I think my account or license has been compromised

Change your account password immediately, secure the associated email account, and contact Support. Include any suspicious login, device, payment, or activation information you noticed.

ReadThisAloud may invalidate sessions, reset activations, revoke tokens, or temporarily restrict the account while the issue is investigated.

I have a billing, renewal, cancellation, or refund question

Billing matters should be sent to billing@readthisaloud.com. Include the account email, approximate charge date, plan, and transaction or receipt identifier if available.

Do not send your full card number or card security code. Review the Refund & Cancellation Policy for the rules governing refunds, renewals, trials, and cancellations.

I need help with a business or company deployment

Business customers should contact sales@readthisaloud.com for team licensing, managed deployment, procurement, security review, firewall questions, and organizational purchasing.

Corporate IT teams may need to approve installation and outbound service communication before deployment.

A good support ticket

Give us enough detail to reproduce the problem.

Please include

  • the email address associated with your ReadThisAloud account;
  • ReadThisAloud version;
  • Windows version;
  • the feature you were using;
  • what you expected to happen;
  • what actually happened;
  • the complete error message, if any;
  • whether the issue can be repeated;
  • the document type involved (PDF, DOCX, TXT, pasted text);
  • the selected voice if narration is involved;

If your employer blocks installation, outbound communication, or application execution, the organization's authorized IT team controls that environment.

×

Support cannot provide professional advice

ReadThisAloud Support does not provide legal, medical, financial, compliance, accessibility-certification, or other professional advice.

×

Support cannot bypass licensing or billing rules

Support will not circumvent device limits, narration allowances, account security, subscription terms, or the Refund Policy simply to avoid a valid restriction.

Response expectations

We prioritize by impact, not by message volume.

ReadThisAloud will make reasonable efforts to respond to support requests based on severity, account status, available support resources, and the support level included with the customer's plan. Unless a separate written service-level agreement applies, published or estimated response times are targets rather than guaranteed deadlines.
